Bridge Crew - DeWitt
Under general supervision, perform skilled work in the operation of various heavy equipment in the repair and maintenance of bridges and culverts, various roadway construction projects and snow removal. The Bridge Crew will lead by example the behaviors and work ethic becoming of Clinton County.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Organize and prioritize multiple tasks and competing priorities.
- Responsible for safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment and tools used in road, bridge and culvert repair and various construction projects including, but not limited to: dump truck, bulldozer, motor grader, front end-loader, mower, excavator, skid steer, chain saw, compactor, air hammer, concrete saw, brush chipper and dragline.
- Perform regular inspections of equipment to ensure safety and operability.
- Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment on a regular basis.
- Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment as necessary.
- Operate equipment on maintenance and various construction projects including, but not limited to: bridge construction and repair, culvert repair and construction, grading roads and ditches, excavation and earth moving, laying pipe and tile, building catch basins, digging and cleaning ditches, patching PCC and ACC roads, brush cutting, concrete form work and placement and concrete finishing.
- Operate motor grader loader, snow blowers and heavy trucks for snow and ice removal.
- Perform manual labor as necessary to conduct general road and bridge maintenance and construction.

Minimum Qualifications Requirements - (Education and Experience):
High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required.
Work Experience: One (1) year of experience operating heavy equipment. One (1) year experience in road and bridge construction/maintenance.

- Ability to safely use welder, torch, hand tools, saws, wrenches and other miscellaneous tools.
- Possess effective communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple responsibilities and completing priorities by being flexible to meet demands.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship with co-workers, government officials, community groups, and other law enforcement agencies.
- Ability to interact with a variety of people, some in emotionally stressful situations.

- Have excellent communication skill, both oral and written.

- Ability to add and subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Work Environment:
Performs duties outdoors and is routinely exposed to varied weather conditions. Routine exposure to chemicals, engine exhaust, noise and hazards associated with traffic.
